We follow the steps of Jesus and believe baptism to be a very important expression of faith in your spiritual journey. Baptism is a public, outward declaration expressing the change that takes place in your soul when you turn your life to Christ.
Baptism identifies with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, and Overflow participates in immersion baptism. Going under the water is symbolic of dying and burying the old self and sin… and a reminder of what Jesus did for each of us when He hung on the cross, died and was buried:
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4
Emerging from the water symbolizes Christ’s resurrection as well as our own rebirth, allowing us to live as a new creation through Jesus, the bridge to eternal life. Jesus’ resurrection shows His power and authority to forgive our sins and to fulfill the promises He made in 2 Corinthians 5:17, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19
